Arenal
The Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in this hemisphere. You will experience a most impressive view of the power and energy a volcano delivers. Irazu
Irazu, At 3,432 m high, it is the highest volcano in the country, and has a long history of eruptions and eruption cycles. Irazu is another option for viewing an impressive live volcano in Costa Rica. You can see both the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean on a clear day from this volcano. There are three main craters here. The main one is almost circular, 1,050 m in diameter and 250 to 300 m deep. At its base there is a lagoon with greenish color water. see more
Poas
The volcano experiences eruptions similar to those of a geyser, which consist of columns of muddy water together with steam that rise from a few to several kilometers. These eruptions have made Poas famous as the biggest geyser in the world. The main crater is enormous ,almost 2 km in diameter and 300 m deep. At the bottom of this crater there is a thermo mineral lagoon some 350 m across. Just getting to Poas Volcano you’ll traverse a beautiful path of coffee plantations and flower farms that adorn the side of the road and the views as you start climbing are breathtaking . see more
Rincon de la Vieja
Costa Rica has six active volcanoes. One of these, found in the Northwestern corner of the country, is the Rincon de la Vieja (the niche where the Old One lives )Volcano, which is located within Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The dry and cloud forest prevails in the area. The park is well organized having a very interesting trail system taking you thru smoking fumaroles and hot mud pools. You can walk right through the volcanic activity and hot mineral springs and mud therapy are common in all the area. see more
