The Province of
Guanacaste represents Costa Rica's most opulent coastal
area Its beaches provide a diversity of 2 colliding
worlds , from pristine virgin unaltered beaches and
rocky points that sit on a tropical dry forest where
wild animals still dominate the environment to modern
resorts, gourmet restaurants and marinas for charter
boats equipped for sport fishing parasailing, diving,
water skies and other aquatic sport activities. Golf
courses designed by PGA professionals, modern discotheques
and stores provide additional entertainment. The weather
throughout the province of Guanacaste is characterized
by being hot with well-defined wet and dry seasons making
this location a heaven for sun lovers with almost guaranteed
sun all year round. A few days will be adequate for
a great tan. The intense dry season is caused by the
effects of the northeast trade winds that blow in off
the Caribbean from November through March. When the
trade winds shift northward, air currents bring humidity
and life-giving rains in from the Pacific Ocean during
rainy season which runs mid-May through mid-November..
Even during rainy season, there is plenty of sun each
day for sunbathing, especially in the mornings.
The forests of Guanacaste are home
to many interesting animals like Howler monkeys, Spider
Monkeys, Giant Iguanas, ant eaters, deer ,sloth ,great
Curacao birds and many other species of birds and mammals.
On some beaches of Guanacaste, Leatherback and other
Sea Turtles come to lay their eggs. The Pacific Olive
Ridley are present from March to October at the beaches
of Santa Rosa (Nancite) and Ostional. The giant Leatherback
arrives from October to March in the beaches of Playa
Grande and Tamarindo
