San Jose de la Montaña is located on the slopes of the famous Barva Volcano in the Heredia province, a few kilometers from the town of Barva. It is also close to the amazing Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Set amidst a tall evergreen forest, this village is reminiscent of a Swiss mountain town, with its beautiful 18th century wood homes and dramatic landscape. If you wish to travel here by car, get detailed directions because it is easy to get lost. From here, one can also visit the town of Sacramento, which is around 9 km (5.6 miles) north.
